Art History Research Posters 2013-2014

Art History Research Posters

I do this project every year with my grade 9's. Please refer to my other posts for examples. http://mseatonsart.blogspot.ca/search/label/Posters . Students are required to research an artist and create a poster that replicates their style. each year they seem to get better and better.

I was always afraid of doing to much drawing with my students. I was afraid for those who may struggle. I always try to give projects that will allow all my students to flourish, however ever I was wrong. They blew me away. This is a project I will do every year. It may take long and they may complain about it, but it is clearly evident that they learn from it. the results are outstanding.

The main rules were to create many values and to not outline there work. This taught them how to use value and refrain from using lines. When students do pencil drawings they rely to much on the pencil outline to define a space but in this case their only choice is to use dots.

Functional Animals

Functional Animals

Every year I seem to always switch up what I do with the grade 11's. One of these years I will come up with something I am super happy with, this project may be it. Throughout of time surfing the net, specifically Pinterest I have seen great ceramic pieces using animals as the subject matter. I was torn between doing animals or just functional objects with my students. I had them vote on what they would rather do and the vote turned out 50/50 so I decided to combined the two.

The FUNCTIONAL ANIMAL concept is basically where students have to think of something that is functional such as salt and pepper shakers, piggy banks, book ends, gravy boats etc and turn it into an animal. Some found this quite challenging and others flourished. The only difficult thing for me was distinguishing what a suitable size would be and I feel I did not stress enough that the animal could not just be sitting on the functional object but needed to be apart of it. However, they turned out quite impressive. I am very happy with this project.
