Ceramic Totems
This lesson was inspired by many different sculptures I had seen on Pinterest.
I bought large pieces of dowel and had them cut into 16" in length. I drilled 1/4" depth holes into 6"x6" x 1 1/4" block of wood.
Each student made approximately 15 pieces to be stacked on top of one another. They were asked to vary the sizes of each piece. Balance and Unity were the main principles of design that we looked at. I asked them to make a totem that has pieces that are entirely abstract and organic.
