OP Art

Op Art

I got the lesson from http://juliannakunstler.com/art1_opt_des.html
It has step by step instructions. Excellent source.

The end product is gorgeous, however the process was long and I went through SOOOO many pencil crayons. Contemplating doing this project again this year. If I do I will do it on a smaller scale.

Clay Bowls – Pitch Pots with Feet

Clay Bowls – Pitch Pots with Feet
This was such a fun project. I was really nervous in introducing it at first because I didn't know what to expect with regards to the results. I was so please with the ideas students had and how well they executed their ideas. I had them create three thumb nail sketches before they begin.

TIP: It's really important that when you work with clay that students do not create air bubbles between attachments and that the thickness of all areas of their sculpture is no bigger than an inch. Some areas were hollowed out to prevent this.

Vance Kirkland Splatter Paintings

Vance Kirkland Dot Painting

This was I think by far one of the most fun and favorite projects of the year. I gave my students a PPP on Vance Kirkland's work and techniques. They began by choosing a Harmonious Colour Scheme .
-MONOCHROMATIC
-SPLIT COMPLEMENTARY
-ANALOGUS
-TRIAD
-COMPLEMENTARY
-TETRAD

Then they began by painting their entire canvas with one key colour.    Once the canvas was dry they splattered watered down acrylic paint from baby jars. (Splatter booths were made in order to keep things tame and to keep the area clean.) The colours they used to splatter must be from the colour scheme they chose. The next step: The splatters acted as a map to help guide them in their dotted design. They began creating dotted patterns using wooden dowels.

2012-2013 Artist Posters

Artist Research Poster

I was really blown away with this years Artist Posters. I've learned that when students have example artwork to refer to they really strive to do even better. Having examples opens their imaginations to how far they can push the envelope of creation.
